The Purpose of This Blog

As you might well imagine, ever since the MEGA board approved our tax credit and Gov. Granholm announced that our company intends to build its first factory in Monroe, MI, we have been absolutely inundated with emails and phone calls from people wanting to know more about the project.

In fact, in the time that it took me to write the first sentence, I have received another six emails, which brings the total to 502 ..... and counting!

Obviously a lot of people seem to be very interested in what we're doing so I thought that it would be helpful to create this blog so as to keep you all up to speed with our progress and answer any questions that you might have.

I'd like to close this first post by saying that the rest of the Great Lakes Towers team and I are both extremely grateful and quite humbled by the messages of support that we have already received for this project. Thank you all very much for your interest.

  1. The turnaround in the financial markets may be arriving soon allowing for GL Towers to raise the remaining funds to initiate this project in Michigan. As a native of SE Michigan, I'm anxious and hopeful that I can join this growing industry.

  2. Ian,
I know of another local start up company that may be interested in working together with you to provide other components needed to build the entire "wind mill" assembly.
Please let me know how to get in touch with you. Please send a note to - jeff6026@charter.net

  3. Ian, I hope a bunch of companies in your industry come to Michigan. I expect the energy field to be as exciting as the automotive industry once was. I'm especially interested because I specialize in plant/facility start-ups, which our company hasn't had now in a couple years. I miss the excitment and energy, and am surely interested in your company. Thanks.

  4. I'm really glad that Great Lakes Towers has come to Monroe and I'm sure you'll see that you've made the best choice in locations. There is a great manufacturing knowledge base in Monroe that's hungry for a new opportunity and I believe that this is just the start of something great! Ian, as we have discussed in our correspondence, I look forward to the opportunity of seeking employement with GLT and helping the company become the class of the industry. Thanks.

  7. A blog helps boost online visibility, if it's done well and follows certain protocols that fit search engine characteristics. That's called search engine optimization (SEO).

A well-managed blog can help you raise your profile (not too much of a problem now, it seems) as well as improve it; manage your public relations; and keep media and potential stakeholders informed. But a blog is just one small piece of a company's communications strategy.

Please let me know if you'd like help managing any of your blogging, writing, PR or other communication needs.

  8. Do you have a design and manufacturing plan? Maybe you could do some hiring ahead of the end of the year. Can I send a resume and a letter?

Ian: I'm organizing the Midwest Wind Power Alliance, a consortium of Michigan manufacturers with the express purpose of spearheading an effort to recruit a large wind turbine OEM to Michigan. I see your start-up company as a potential member. Please forward your e-mail address, and I'll send you some background to review. Thanks. Tim Bannister (tbannister2@sbcglobal.net)
